A Taste of Pennsylvania History: Savor the Story Behind Our July Maple Scrapple Breakfast Sandwich
For me, scrapple isn’t just a Pennsylvania tradition.
It’s a story I’ve heard my whole life.
I remember warm summer evenings on my grandparents’ farm. Around seven o’clock, the sun would begin to sink behind the fields, painting the sky in shades of amber and gold. Grandpa would grab a bucket, and we’d fill it with corn cobs for the pig pen. As soon as they hit the ground, the pigs would squeal and scramble over one another, eager for the first bite.
The smell? Well… let’s just say childhood Jen spent more time holding her nose than enjoying the moment—and truthfully, adult Jen probably still would.
But what I remember most isn’t the pigs....
It’s growing up listening to my grandpa and my mom tell stories.
They would laugh about the yearly tradition of butchering hogs, making pudding, preparing the meat, and making scrapple from scratch. I wasn’t part of that tradition myself, but I loved hearing them reminisce about the early mornings, the hard work, and the way the entire family came together.
Those weren’t just stories about making food—they were stories about a way of life.
They spoke with gratitude for a generation that wasted nothing, worked hard, and treated every blessing as a gift from God.
Nothing was thrown away.
Every part had a purpose.
Every meal reflected careful hands, thankful hearts, and faithful stewardship of what God had provided.
Maybe that’s why scrapple still means more than just breakfast.
Maybe it’s the unmistakable flavor.
Maybe it’s the stories that accompany every bite.
Or maybe it’s the reminder of a generation that understood how to care for the land, appreciate God’s creation, and faithfully steward every blessing He provided.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
In many ways, those values are the very roots of scrapple.

Each bite delivers a satisfying crunch, a silky yolk, buttery toasted bread, and the nostalgic warmth of a country breakfast enjoyed as the morning sun spills across rolling Pennsylvania farmland.

More Than Breakfast—A Story Worth Savoring
Introduced by German-speaking settlers—known today as the Pennsylvania Dutch—scrapple embodied a philosophy of stewardship and gratitude. Nothing was wasted. Every blessing was valued. After butchering, flavorful cuts of pork were slowly simmered with fragrant spices, blended with hearty cornmeal, poured into loaf pans, chilled, then sliced and fried until the exterior became beautifully crisp while the inside remained tender and rich.
What began as a humble farmhouse staple grew into one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic comfort foods—a breakfast tradition that has stood the test of time for more than 300 years.
Our Maple Scrapple Breakfast Sandwich pays tribute to that rich heritage while bringing it to life in a fresh and satisfying way.
It’s comforting.
It’s nostalgic.
It’s unmistakably Pennsylvania.
Whether scrapple has been part of your family’s breakfast table for generations or you’re discovering it for the very first time, this sandwich is an invitation to experience a beloved piece of Pennsylvania history—one delicious bite at a time.
