Covenant Café will close its weekly Sunday brunch operation on Sunday, August 29, 2010. After two years, the owners will focus exclusively on their increasing interest in special event catering. The lease end of the current location at 2749 W.... 79th Street , in Chicago , provided good timing for change. "We have wanted to focus more on catering, especially banquet services. We really love this place, but it isn't well suited for that type of expansion," owner, Jamel Williams said. Covenant Café will be fondly remembered for its South Side Sunday brunch, serving an American mix of cinnamon French toast, grits, cheese grits, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, candied yams, bowtie pasta, blackened tilapia, chicken strips, salads, desserts, fruit, banana pudding, and the renowned buffalo shrimp. Café loyalists will be happy to know that all items are on the catering menu. "Same good food, same good service, same good spirits," Natasha Williams, who manages catering shared. "We are excited about our catering vision. In fact, we plan to offer more menu options and service for larger groups, as our overhead expenses will be reduced significantly.” Covenant Café's final Sunday brunch operation is scheduled for, Sunday, August 29, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Champagne will be served on the brunch menu as a thank you to all customers. "There are so many people to thank for their time, investments, and support. To all of our cooks, servers, hosts, and dishwashers, you are family. To our customers, you are dear friends. This has been an unforgettable experience; it is not a period, just a comma," Jamel says. Please visit the website, www.covenantcafe.com for updates on the restaurant and catering prices.
